Is it possible to get unemployment benefits if I'm given a severance package?

I was just furloughed from my job and the General Manager is promising me that he will pay my wages through the rest of the year. Will this DISqualify me for compensation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I wouldn't think so.....You won't be getting a pay check. That's a good question. I'll be watching this post for you and if you don't have an answer by the morning...I have a good friend who is an imployment lawyer and I'll give him a call for ya.
Good luck Bro

Thanks,

Yeah I walked into work yesterday and was told to call the GM and he let me go. He claims that they will pay my wages for a while, but I'm pretty disgusted over this.

I was under the impression that you would not be eligible for some, if not all of your unemployment compensation. it depends on how long and how much your severance pay is for.

My main problem is that I worked for a railroad and no one can tell me if I can still file for State benefits.

Even after I called the unemployment office, I couldn't get an answer.
