It seems like October’s shaping up to be an interesting month for Apple (http://www.askmen.com/top_10/entertainment/top-10-ways-apple-changed-the-world.html). The company is looking to launch more competitor-flattening products just in time for the holidays. And apparently size does matter, as the first is expected to be an iPad Mini that’s going to be 7.85 inches in diameter. The screen resolution is going to be 1024x768, same as the non-retina iPads (http://www.askmen.com/entertainment/gadget/apple-ipad.html), because you’d have to press your nose against the screen to see a pixel on a seven-inch 2048x1536 screen, and it would still cost $500, which leads us to...The big feature of the iPad Mini is its expected price tag of “low-ish $200 range.” As anyone with a Kindle Fire will tell you, what appealed to them about Amazon’s less-than-speedy tablet wasn’t the glorious seven-inch screen or the pokey Silk browser -- it was the fire-sale pricetag of $200. For the same reason Apple still sells the iPhone 3GS, it needs a cheaper iPad because the demand is there and it isn't there with a product, and emerging but poorer markets like China and India make up an increasing portion of sales relative to the U.S. We may be ready for the PS4, but Brazil’s just getting used to its shiny new Playstation 2 that came out there in 2009.With solid confirmations of this rumor coming from all ends of the universe, we’re wondering if Apple is becoming increasingly leaky. After Tim Cook said he wants to “double down on secrecy,” he’s looking like the CEO equivalent of Jon Favreau in Swingers. Don’t sweat it, baby -- you always double down on October.
