Every week, AskMen highlights the rad, the bad and the straight-up sad in music. This week: Diplo strikes twice, Snoop chants down Babylon and Kreayshawn fails to impress us. -->Download this Snoop Lion, "La La La"Although Snoop Dogg has never been the most hyper of rappers, his recent reggae reinvention as Snoop Lion takes his flow to even more relaxed places. The Diplo-produced laid-back rhythms (borrowed from Ken Boothe's sublime "Artibella") won't necessarily get you off the couch, but the tropical feel will instantaneously have you in beach mode regardless. What's more, Jovi Rockwell, who provides the childishly catchy hook, sounds so much like Robyn here that even big city girlfriends will dig this.Hot Chip, "Look At Where We Are (Major Lazer remix)"Despite the fact that their sporty new video for "How Do You Do? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd_JW73R1Wk)" just came out, this reggae-tinged remix of their previous single, "Look At Where We Are," is our Hot Chip choon of the week. Putting the dub in dubstep, the Major Lazer remix (Diplo (http://www.askmen.com/celebs/men/entertainment/diplo/) again!) takes perverse pleasure in switching back and forth between a reggae love song and buzzsaw breakdowns. The xx, "Angels"The xx know how to tease. This, the first track from their new album, Coexist (dropping September 11th), shows the band largely unchanged (no sophomore radio-friendly reinvention this, thank God), yet there is a new refinement in Romy Madley-Croft's vocals that is hard to dismiss. Where before her cooing seemed precociously nostalgic, now a self-awareness has slipped in that reveals the band's debt to Everything But The Girl and its reservedly strong frontwoman Tracey Thorn. Watch this: Man Like Me, "London Town VIP"Three years old at this point, yet still as fresh as it was in sunny 2009, Man Like Me's "London Town" has been re-released to capitalize on the British capital's Olympic hosting duties. The track is a history lesson in both sound and lyrics, paying tribute to early UK dubstep and grime, and shouting out the classic Rinse FM (http://rinse.fm) to infectious effect. Also, don't miss this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2it7WrUDck]) more raucous live version starring rising singer Jessie Ware that was recorded for the BBC. Skip this: Kreayshawn, "We Go Hard (La.La.La)"It's easy to hate on Kreayshawn (http://www.askmen.com/celebs/interview_600/662_kreayshawn.html) -- too easy, really. Still, I thought she was on to something with “Gucci Gucci.” That song's buzzy production and its equally hook-y backing track and chorus more than made up for her obnoxiously nasal flow and f*ck-you hipster styling. Here, though, the la-la-la-ing that makes the Snoop song above so addictive turn this tune into noxious gunk.
