One of the most interesting near future technologies currently being developed has got to be self-driving cars. For many the very concept is still in the realm of science fiction, but for those of you who've been paying attention, we're actually a lot closer than you might think. Google, Volkswagen, Audi, and Volvo are among the most active players in the field, and today Volvo released information on their automated parking system, and it looks amazing.

The project, named simply Autonomous Parking, is able to navigate the test vehicle to a parking space completely on it's own. To the point where you can literally just step out of the car and hit a button on your smartphone and let the thing park itself. The system is able to intelligently avoid pedestrians, vehicles, and any other obstructions in the area on it's way to the parking spot.
