Admit it -- it’s happened to you: You go out to a party and get wasted. You do something offensive or just plain embarrassing. You log on to Facebook the next morning in a hungover stupor to find you’ve been tagged in dozens of humiliating, extremely unflattering photos. So what do you do? You’d think that most people would cringe and go back to bed. But, as it turns out, many Facebook users are actually flagging the photos of themselves as offensive, using Facebook’s mechanism to report photos that violate their policies -- meant for pics that are pornographic or violent. According to Facebook engineer Arturo Bejar, the vast majority of flagged photos don’t feature boobs, balls or beat downs; they’re actually relatively boring portraits. Since there’s no way to take down a photo of yourself that someone else has posted if you’re worried your nose looks too big, users turned to the reporting mechanism in frantic attempts to get the pictures removed.Facebook has since changed its policy, so that now you can use the report link to contact the photo’s owner directly instead of complaining to the site (though you could just as easily send them a message). It’s a good alternative to snitching, though you can still go the celebrity route and smash the photographer’s camera if you’re really worried about what ends up online.More on AskMen:Blondes vs. Brunettes: The Verdict Is InThe 10 Films We Can't Wait For In 2012 Continue Reading
