It seems Samsung is yearning for the tablet days of yore. In an interview, Samsung Product Marketing Manager Ryan Bidan not-so-subtly revealed future plans for the companies' tablet lineup, and it looks like it’s bringing back the tablet pen -- specifically the Samsung S Pen. Unless he’s the worst product marketing manager in the world, it’s fair to assume the comment "I think a pen interface continues to make a lot of sense across a number of screen sizes, like the larger is more obvious of those” means that we’ll be seeing pens in Samsung’s tablet future.For one of the four people who owned the mythical beast known as the “Windows tablet,” this was how pre-iPad tablets were designed. Microsoft saw tablets as a business tool and pens as a way to give suits the combined joys of precision clicking with endless meeting notation. Not surprisingly, the Windows-with-a-pen-in-your-lap didn’t take off. We’re still waiting to hear from our Palm hobos in the field to see how it worked out for them.Nevertheless, there are instances where a stylus comes in handy, and even creative tablet manufacturer Wacom has jumped on board the iPad stylus bandwagon, for those who want to draw on their iPad despite its lack of pressure sensitivity. The interesting part will be seeing just how integrated Samsung makes its stylus, since it can customize Android. Bidan also mentioned more innovative 3D gestures, involving the front-facing camera, face recognition and voice recognition. Now that really sounds like a crazy-ass meeting. Continue Reading
