Mr. T always said "Don’t be a fool, stay in school," but a new study by academicssays that just showing up to class isn't good enough. That’s because those who madethe least amount of progress in college were more likely to be unemployed, burdened with credit card debt and even living at home later in life.Using theCollegiate Learning Assessment, researchers were able to filter the college grads intogroups. Those who had scored in the bottom quintile of the CLA when in school were threetimes more likely to be unemployed (9.6%), compared with the students who scored in thetop quintile (3.1%), and were almost twice as likely to be living at home (35%), comparedwith the students with good grades (18%). Also, the students in the lower tier were morelikely to have serious credit card debt (51%) when compared with those who graded well(37%).Previous studies have shown that as many as 36% of college graduatesmake no progress in writing, critical thinking or reasoning.
