Default The Rapper Wars: Are 50 Cent's New Headphones Worth It?

The war of rapper-branded headphones is upon us. I can see the music video now. Cue 50Cent talking trash about Beats by Dreheadphones: "Yo' beats is fuzzy like yo’ upper lip, boy. Take them cansback; they sound like a sh*t toy.”After tacking his name on a remarkablyterrible game, 50 Cent ishoping his company, SMS Audio, can do a better job with his newly released Sync wirelessheadphones.Style-wise, the Syncs are available in either black or white but, according to Michael Jackson, it doesn’t matter which you get. We beg to differ --the white leather and white plastic version feels kookie in their futuristic-ness, andlook like something Woody Allen would wear in Sleeper. The black ones, whilestill futuristic, don’t scream “Hey, man, don’t bogart the orb.”Otherwise, these big, big cans are comfortable and the Kleer-brand wireless streamingworks as advertised. The main complaints reviewers have with the headphones arethat they -- and their hook-on wireless dongle -- have to be charged, meaning you have notone but two devices that can run out of juice while away from a plug. I’m wearing a pair of Sennheiser PXC 450 headphones now but these use a battery,so I can swap it out if they run out of power. The Syncs are apparently not as asgreat-sounding as you’d expect from $400 headphones, but anyone born with bothhalves of their brain knows that celebrity endorsement basically means twice the cost andhalf the quality. Bob Ross paints ain’t hanging at the MOMA, and Kate Moss-brandcocaine is terrible.I think it’s safe to say that the best thing aboutthese are the angry and confused shoppers who thought they were getting a badass pair ofheadphones for 50 cents. Not a bad idea to make money, I'd never want them just because his name is on them. Not hard to think of that when you got the money already.
