There are 10 million people in theWorld of Warcraft because Chuck Norrisallows them to live. But maybe there are some other reasons why all of those players justcan’t get enough of the game. A newstudy from North Carolina State University showed that playingWoW can increase your cognitive abilities and keep them sharp -- at least for older people. Researchers examined 39 players aged 60 to 77 and found that after just twoweeks of Warcraft, their vocabulary, attention spans, spatial abilities and memorywere far improved over those who didn’t play the game.Interesting enough, it only benefited those who struggled in thosecategories to begin with. The adults who rated lowest through initial tests gained the most by the end of the two weeks. Those who scored high to begin with didn’t showany gains. The benefits are not tied solely toWoW, but the study is still quite the interesting find. Nowadays, thedoctor’s cure to a short attention span or alack of cognitive ability is a prescription for Ritalin or some other kind ofpsychostimulant.
