Default The Dirtiest Part Of A Hotel Room Isn't What You'd Think

Next time you’re shopping for a hotel online, you might want to second-guess that discounted spot if the reviewers give it some shoddy cleanliness ratings. A new study from the University of Houston tested out the hygiene of hotel rooms and discovered some nasty news. It turns out that the night lamp and the television remote are the most bacteria-filled spots in the room (other than the toilet and sink, which is to be expected). Researchers took samples from several items in hotel rooms from Texas, Indiana and North Carolina, and also found that the maid’s mop and sponge were highly contaminated. The system is broken if the person cleaning is using infected instruments. To give you an idea of just how filthy the rooms were, in comparison to a perfectly chaste hospital room, these hotel rooms were found to have roughly 2 to 10 times more bacteria. Keep in mind that this study didn’t exactly take into account the price point of the hotel. I’m guessing that the Waldorf Astoria might be slightly cleaner than, say, the Flea Bag Motel.
