San Diego Comic-Con audiences got a sneak peek at the new-look Quartermaster -- or Q, as he’s known to audiences -- during the unveiling of Skyfall’s IMAX-only trailer. And the look is definitely new. Indeed, as played by 31-year-old Brit Ben Whishaw -- acclaimed for his roles on stage and TV -- Q’s been reinvented as a tech geek, more likely to disable Her Majesty’s enemies with a keyboard than a submarine car. What hasn’t changed is the terse relationship between Bond and his go-to gadget guru. Q points out to a skeptical 007 that he can accomplish more with a computer in 10 minutes than Bond can do in a year of fieldwork. The trailer also reveals the crucial plot point that sets Skyfall in motion -- massive spoiler ahead! One scene reveals Dame Judi Dench’s M being torn a new one by her boss, Gareth Mallory (Ralph Fiennes). It turns out that M’s missing a drive that contained the secret identities of all the 00 agents. Given the image in the previous trailer that saw M overlooking a number of Union Jack-draped coffins, this obviously doesn’t enhance the 00’s short life expectancy one little bit.Elsewhere, the trailer shows that director Sam Mendes can handle IMAX-sized action just as well as drama -- the pre-credits train-roof punch looks like it will sear your eyebrows off.And just to make Bond fans very happy, there’s, of course, a “Bond, James Bond.”Color us excited, then. See you at The Dark Knight Rises to (hopefully) catch it before the main show.Skyfall opens across North America in November. Continue Reading
