Holiday time is bittersweet for me
Starting around Thanksgiving, I have moments of joy than instant moments of sadness. When I am in a store and I hear Xmas music I just instantly tear up. The joy is seeing my little girl's exciement and anticipation and also how greatful I am for her. We bake cookies, put up decorations, go to lots of parties, go shopping, make crafts and I look at here and see how fast she is growing and I treasure these moments so much. The sadness is for the child I do not have here.
I think this does happen to many others around the holidays too. It is a happy and hard time of the year for many.
Does this happen to anyone else around this time?

I only have 1 living grandparent left so the holidays are always tough for me. For years after my paternal grandmother passed everyone was afraid to even mention my grandmother around my father. She was the epity of southern hospitality. She treated me and my brother like princes and i know the sun would have rose and set on my son. I'm not referring to the financial spoiling but how my grandmother made everything special and made everyone feel special. It has been roughly 7 years since she passed and we have gotten past not mentioning her but this past thanksgiving i wanted to mention in my grace all those who weren't with us anymore but chickened out. My wife and i were busy cooking and serving everyone so there was no real grace said.
With the birth of my son in 2009 the holidays have had a new excitement but it has also made me miss those who arent here to share it.
